(10/8/08): Cincinnati NAACP Announces Bond Lowered for Mr. Reed PDF Print E-mail
On behalf of the Cincinnati NAACP, President Christopher Smitherman is proud to announce that Attorney Elizabeth Tye was successful yesterday in her motion to get the bond lowered for Mr. Reed, a 19 year-old, African American man charged with Child Endangerment. Judge Mock heard the case after postponing it Monday for further consideration.  His decision yesterday was fair. The bond was lowered from $500,000 straight to an O.R. Bond with a monitoring device. Mr. Reed should go home today or tomorrow after his mother secures a telephone line in her home.

(10/10/08): Berding's Frivolous Complaint Against YES On Issue 8 Rejected by OEC! PDF Print E-mail
Jeff Berding and Freeman McNeal filed a complaint with the Ohio Elections Commission (OEC) this past Tuesday, October 7, 2008 stating that YES on 8 was putting out false information. On Thursday, October 9, 2008 the Ohio Elections Commission threw out the charges "not finding any probable cause to pursue."

(10/5/08): Cincinnati NAACP Crashes the Polls and Goes to Judge Mock's Courtroom Tomorrow(10/6/08) PDF Print E-mail

Please note the following announcements and upcoming events for your calendar and click "Read More" for additional detail:

 

--The last day for "Operation Crash the Polls" where you can register and vote on the same day is Monday, October 6, 2008 at the Board of Elections  8:00 am - 9:00 pm.   

 

--The Cincinnati NAACP will be on Court Watch for the Timothy Reed case Tomorrow, Monday, October 6, 2008 at 9:00 am at the Hamilton County Courthouse

 

--The Cincinnati NAACP and Crown Bus Company will be at Withrow High School at 2:00 pm to take all 18 year olds and interested staff members down to the Board of Elections to register and vote

 

--The 53rd Annual NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner is Friday, October 10th at the Duke Energy Convention Center.  Tickets are $75 per person.  Please contact the Cincinnati NAACP office at 281-1900 for more information about reserving your seat. 

 

--Remember that every Saturday from 5:00 - 6:30 pm the Cincinnati NAACP President is on 1230 am WDBZ.

(10/4/08): Another Child Endangerment Case puts African American Woman in jail PDF Print E-mail
Chennel Pace, a 29 year-old African American woman, was arrested and charged with four counts of child endangering on September 28, 2008 by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.  Ms. Pace's 12 year-old daughter was watching  the other three children ages 8, 6, and 18 months while Ms. Pace was working a few hours of overtime to pay bills.  Ms. Pace was not in a bar while her children were at home.  She was at work.  Yet, the Hamilton County system has criminalized her and taken away all of her children.  The Cincinnati NAACP does not condone any harm to children. The Cincinnati NAACP is an advocacy organization for civil rights and fairness.  The Branch President, Christopher Smitherman stated, "The Hamilton County Criminal Justice system is racist.
