The City of Cincinnati spent almost $1Billion over a 2year period (2007 and 2008).  However,  African American Businesses received less than 1% of that spending in a city that is 47% African American!

To help address these shameful results, The Cincinnati NAACP will provide the Mayor and City Council each month an African American Vendor that is trying to get on the City's Vendor list but cannot due to barriers.  The Cincinnati NAACP's expectation is that the Mayor and City Council will work expeditiously to get these qualified and capable  African American Vendors on the City's vendor list.

.

The following documents and tracks correspondence to and from the Mayor and City Council regarding this effort to increase  African American Businesses access and participation in doing business with the City of Cincinnati:

(7/1/09): African American Business Owner Trying to do Business with the City PDF Print E-mail

July 1, 2009

Dear Mayor, Members of Council and African American Chamber,

Eric Ruffin owns a business called FARENHYT fire alarm.  He has been trying to get on the City of Cincinnati's list for 10 years to be considered a vendor.  We have been told that African Americans do not have capacity.  This company has capacity to install fire alarms.  His company has capacity.  The Cincinnati NAACP will provide you each month with an African American vendor that is trying to get on your list but can not because of barriers.  It is my expectation based on the city's terrible SBE numbers that all of you will respond with speed in making sure that Mr. Ruffin is on the city list.

I have asked Mr. Ruffin to contact me after the city makes contact and he has successfully been placed on "the list."

Mr. Ruffin's contact information is listed below.  He also has been included in this email.
