There will be a Cincinnati NAACP meeting tonight Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 6:00 pm at South Avondale School located at 636 Prospect Place across from the Urban League.  All members of the community are welcome whether you are a member or not.  However, only members in good standing will be able to vote in tonight's meeting.

We will be discussing and voting as a membership on three very important issues: 1) City of Cincinnati plan to privatize our water system, 2) Update on Banks Project Spending with African American businesses, 3) Recall provision for the recall of ANY mayor of Cincinnati.

April 23, 2009

Dear Membership and Community,

There will be a Cincinnati NAACP meeting tonight Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 6:00 pm at South Avondale School located at 636 Prospect Place across from the Urban League.  All members of the community are welcome whether you are a member or not.  However, only members in good standing will be able to vote in tonight's meeting.  We will be discussing and voting as a membership on three very important issues.

  • First, the City of Cincinnati is planning to privatize our water system.  This could result in higher water prices for the every citizen in Cincinnati. The Cincinnati NAACP hopes Water Work City Employees will show up tonight for the vote. The Cincinnati Executive Committee recommends a vote tonight to oppose transfer! This vote does come with recommendation from the Executive Committee to recall ANY Mayor of Cincinnati.

  • Second, Jim Clingman, Chair of Economic Development, will update the membership on the Banks project.  Even with the City of Cincinnati's poor SBE numbers the Banks project numbers do not look good for African Americans. Does the "status quo" think we are surprised? Still important for our members to have the information.

  • Finally, the membership will vote on whether ANY Mayor of Cincinnati can be recalled.  Attorney Chris Finney, Chair of Legal Redress, informed the Executive Committee that the City of Cincinnati has no recall provision in its charter.  This vote does come with recommendation from the Executive Committee to recall any Mayor of Cincinnati.

If our community wants to make progress,  all of us must make time for our monthly Cincinnati NAACP meetings. The city spent 1 billion dollars and African Americans got $716,000 over two years. This happens because as a community we allow the behavior. Remember City Council and the Mayor's Office are controlled by the Democratic Party. Bring a friend tonight to join the Cincinnati NAACP.

Christopher Smitherman
President of the Cincinnati NAACP
