The Ohio NAACP is outraged by and opposes the recent attempts to disenfranchise voters across Ohio via recent legislation offered in the Ohio 129th General Assembly as HB 194 and SB 148.  In many instances these suggested revisions to the current election laws will limit the opportunities voters have to engage in the Ohio election process.

VOTER INTIMIDATION AND VOTER SUPPRESSION:

.

"Robbing voters of their right to vote and to have their vote counted undermines the very foundations of our democratic society. Politicians, political strategists, and party officials who may consider voter intimidation and suppression efforts as part of their tactical arsenal should prepare to be exposed and prosecuted. State and federal officials, including Justice Department and national political party officials, should publicly repudiate such tactics and make clear that those who engage in them will be face severe punishment."  This is an extract from a special report prepared by the NAACP and People for the American Way Foundation (PFAW) that exposes the historical and modern day tactics of voter intimidation and suppression in America today.  This report will enlightened you on how Our right to vote and then have that vote count is under attack!

VOTER ALERT!!!

********************************

Our right to vote and then have that vote count is under attack!

When a voter can do everything he/she is required to do to meet voting requirements and then have their vote not count due to poll worker error or selective enforcement in targeted communities of arbitrary partisan election procedures to disenfranchise voters to win an election, our right to vote and have that vote counted is under attack!  All of us should be concerned (Republican, Democrat, Independent)  and gravely disturbed by this because if it can be done to one person or in one precinct, we are all potential victims of voter disenfranchisement!  The current hot issue in Hamilton County is the counting of provisional ballots cast at the right polling place but in the wrong precinct due to poll worker error vs voter error.  Click the below link to become informed of this and other issues that affect your right to vote and have that vote counted.  Are you sure your vote is being counted?  Be Informed and then be Proactive NOW to make sure ALL eligible voters in Hamilton County and Ohio that vote in elections get their votes COUNTED!.

The Cincinnati NAACP President, Christopher Smitherman, will sleep outside the Hamilton County Board of Elections Monday, September 28, 2009 to vote on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. The Cincinnati NAACP must raise the awareness that the polls are open on Tuesday, September 29, 2009.  "We encourage all of our members to vote early at the Board of Elections.  Follow me and vote at the Board of Elections and fight, fight, fight for the freedom of our community," Smitherman says. The status quo thinks that after the 2008 National election when President Obama was elected that African Americans will not show at the polls this year.  The African American community understands that politics are local and its members are ready to vote again.  The community will vote because there is a lack of African American contracts; lack of funding for health clinics, pools, and recreation centers; lack of properly funded retirement benefits, and a lack of employment.  Cincinnati NAACP members vote and they will rock the polls starting Tuesday, September 29, at 8:00a.m.
