The Cincinnati NAACP Membership urges a Yes Vote on Issue 52.  Cincinnati Public Schools educate 34,000 students every year.  Seventy percent of the students that attend Cincinnati Public Schools are African American.  68% -69% of the students who attend CPS are on free and reduced lunches with the majority of these families being African Americans.  2000 of the children who attend CPS are homeless.  Therefore, almost 6% of the children who attend CPS are homeless.  "The number of homeless children in Cincinnati is on the increase because of the economy.  It is a shame in a country so wealthy to have any children sleeping in cars and on the street" Smitherman says.
.
The majority of Cincinnati NAACP members would not have an education today without public education.  Issue 52 does not raise your taxes but supports 34,000 children who deserve the opportunity to get an education.  Cincinnati Public Schools enrollment is going higher.  Families who have had their children in private schools are turning to Cincinnati Public Schools to educate their children because of the economy.  The 2010 school year will follow the same trend of parents pulling their children out of private schools because they can not afford the private tuition.  It is great to have public education that all Cincinnatians can access.  "I personally believe in public education and Cincinnati Public Schools deserve our support" Smitherman says.  Vote Yes on Issue 52.
