The Cincinnati NAACP and Baptist Ministers Conference demand that the Cincinnati Public School (CPS) Board shut down all construction sites in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday. The Cincinnati NAACP members and the Baptist Ministers Conference will stand in solidarity at 4:00 A.M. tomorrow (1/18/10) at Parham Elementary School in the predominantly African-American neighborhood of Evanston.

The Cincinnati NAACP and Baptist Ministers Conference demand that the Cincinnati Public School (CPS) Board shut down all construction sites in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday tomorrow. "The CPS Board and administration has the power to demand that Turner, DAG, TYS Construction, Tricon, Empire, Monarch, HGC, Reece and Cambell and all subcontractors observe the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. CPS has failed to extend contracts to African-American businesses and now they slap our community in the face by allowing contractors to work on this holiday," Christopher Smitherman President of the Cincinnati NAACP says. . The Cincinnati NAACP will take a stand against economic apartheid in Cincinnati in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. The Cincinnati NAACP members and the Baptist Ministers Conference will stand in solidarity at 4:00 A.M. tomorrow at Parham Elementary School in the predominantly African-American neighborhood of Evanston. . Parham Elementary School is being built behind the President of the Baptist Ministers Conference, Reverend Dock Foster's church called Unity Missionary Baptist located at 3126 Fairfield Avenue. "We plan to meet the contractors and workers at the gate. CPS can shut them down or we will," Smitherman says. . . |
