After months of struggle, the House of Representatives passed health care reform with a 219 to 212 vote.
You did it! After months of struggle, the House of Representatives tonight passed health care reform with a 219 to 212 vote.
For the first time in history, a comprehensive health care bill has passed both houses of Congress, and your calls and emails were central to this victory. There were times along the way when it looked as if reform was dead, but you would not let that happen! NAACP members and supporters generated tens of thousands of calls and letters to Congress, demanding reform that helps all Americans. .
The legislation will add 32 million people to the ranks of the insured, and save an estimated 30,000 American lives annually. Crucially, it will put an end to the discriminatory practice of insurance companies denying coverage those with a pre-existing health condition. . The bill, already passed by the Senate, now goes before President Obama for signature. Congratulations--history was made tonight and we could not have done it without you.
