Cincinnati Public School Board and the administration are reneging on agreement. The Cincinnati NAACP identified fraud by the Cincinnati Public Schools administration. The Cincinnati Public School Board agreed to pass a strategic plan that would ensure that fraud would never happen again and African Americans would be awarded contracts on Cincinnati Public Schools. The Cincinnati School Board has not hired a monitor that the Cincinnati NAACP agrees on nor have they passed a strategic plan.
April 26, 2010 . Cincinnati NAACP Media Release . Cincinnati Public School Board and the administration are reneging on agreement. The Cincinnati NAACP identified fraud by the Cincinnati Public Schools administration. The Cincinnati Public School Board agreed to pass a strategic plan that would ensure that fraud would never happen again and African Americans would be awarded contracts on Cincinnati Public Schools. The Cincinnati NAACP wanted to provide CPS room to work on the strategic plan and "line up" four votes to pass the legislation. The Cincinnati School Board has not hired a monitor that the Cincinnati NAACP agrees on nor have they passed a strategic plan. "The Cincinnati NAACP urges all members to reject any effort to pass an operating school levy for 2010 and 2011. The Cincinnati NAACP is prepared for the state to take over the district and fire the entire administration," Christopher Smitherman, President of the Cincinnati NAACP says. . The Cincinnati NAACP opposes Gene Ellington getting a public contract to monitor Cincinnati Public School inclusion program. Mr. Ellington is a part of the problem. Mr. Ellington will have to defend his involvement with "pass-through" and "front" companies at City Hall today. "Why would Cincinnati Public Schools recycle the same people that have not gotten the job done on other major projects? The answer is CPS is not interested in solving the problem," Smitherman says. The penalty for CPS not holding to their word is another vote by the Cincinnati NAACP to expand opposition for any school levy in 2012. This means the Cincinnati NAACP will actively oppose any effort by CPS to pass a school levy in 2010, 2011, and possibly 2012.
