CINCINNATI, OHIO -FEBRUARY 3, 2011 - Berding, Bortz, Murray, Qualls,
Quinlivan, and Young all signed a motion to begin a process to fire
the entire Cincinnati Police Department.  Council Members Winburn,
Ghiz and Thomas did not sign the motion.  The motion is veto proof
from Mayor Mallory because six members passed the legislation.  City
Council's goal is fire the entire Police Department and have officers
reapply with Sheriff Simon Leis. "This is a terrible idea and only
creates unnecessary anxiety for police officers.  It is a great
example of city representatives we elect representing county
interests.  City Council is trying to dismantle all resources from the
City of Cincinnati," Christopher Smitherman, president of the
Cincinnati NAACP said.
.
The Cincinnati NAACP will respond within 3 business days with a
petition.  "The citizens of Cincinnati will be given the opportunity
in November to decide if they want to fire all Cincinnati Police
Officers
or fire Cincinnati City Council," Smitherman says.
