Media Release
.
CINCINNATI, OHIO - JULY 14, 2011- The Cincinnati NAACP mourns the
death of a great civil right leader named Art Slater. Art Slater
served the National NAACP and Cincinnati NAACP with passion,
commitment, and honor. "Art Slater after saying hello would ask you
to join the Cincinnati NAACP. He was a strong supporter of PR as a
fair way to elect members of council. I would say from my last
conversations with Art he was so excited about the birth of his
grandchild. He loved his wife, daughters, grandchild, and son in-law
so much,"Christopher Smitherman, president of the Cincinnati NAACP
said.
.
Art Slater and Karla Irving were the two people who encouraged me to
run for the Cincinnati NAACP position. Mr. Slater wanted the
organization that he spent two decades building and supporting in good
hands. "The Cincinnati NAACP will miss Art Slater so deeply. It is
my hope that the community and media will pause tonight and recognize
this civil rights giant who has passed," Smitherman says.
The Cincinnati NAACP will keep the community informed as we get
information from the family about funeral arrangements.
