(9/24/12): City Council Voting on $29 Million More for Streetcar PDF Print E-mail

CINCINNATI, OHIO - SEPTEMBER 24, 2012 - City Council is preparing to vote to spend $29 million more for the streetcar. Citizens should attend the hearing this morning at 10:30 AM at City Hall.  City Council has raised capital property taxes since the November election to build the streetcar.  There is a strong suggestion from city hall that rate payers should carry the cost for the streetcar.  The price tag of the streetcar continues to rise.  "The streetcar cost is now close to the $180 million price tag that was communicated to the public from the start not the $110 million that was promised.  If you add in the interest on the $64 million of debt the cost exceeds $200 million.  This is a project that tax payers cannot afford and bankruptcy is not progress," Christopher Smitherman, president of the Cincinnati NAACP said.
