| (12/2/09): Cincinnati NAACP Letter to CPS Superintendent Regarding $5 Million Loan to County |
|
Cincinnati NAACP President Smitherman sends a letter to the Cincinnati Public Schools Superintendant regarding $5 million loan to Hamilton County.
December 2, 2009 . Dear Superintendent Ronan, . I remain concerned that the school board has voted to loan $5 million to the stadium fund. Hamilton County has announced a plan to borrow $5.5 million from the county emergency fund. This is another indication that the county's financial situation continues to worsen. The county is robbing Peter to pay Paul. There is no loan officer that would trust the county's financial ability to repay CPS $5 million. . The $5 million loan has nothing to do with the mission of Cincinnati Public Schools. The Cincinnati NAACP is aware that the City of Cincinnati has requested the same deal. Our institution can not advise any stronger against the above transactions. Cincinnati Public Schools will continue to undermine any ability to pass a 2010 school levy when you serve as a bank for the stadium fund. . I look forward to our discussions regarding this matter. This letter is a public document. The Cincinnati NAACP wants to be on record in opposition to these transactions. I strongly suggest the board focus on public education. .
