CINCINNATI, OHIO - December 1, 2010 - Leadership starts at the top.
The current recommendations to close the $60 million deficit does not
include salary reductions for highly compensated city employees.
Today city workers have been notified that their jobs have been
eliminated effective December 31, 2010 but will not see reductions in
compensation from the decision makers.  "The decision makers over the
last eight years have got us into this mess but refuse to share in the
pain they have created.  I am sorry is not good enough," Christopher
Smitherman, president of the Cincinnati NAACP said.

However, the recommendation to hire a full time employee to manage
the streetcar is unbelievable.   Those who support the streetcar argue
that no money will be paid out of the general fund to support the
project.  The full time employee will be compensated out of the
general fund.  "The City Council, the Mayor, and the City Manager
should show leadership tonight by cutting their own salaries and
office budgets by 30% to save jobs," Smitherman said.
